Direct answer

Which online 3D viewer should I use?

Choose the viewer that matches the file extension you actually received. Modelfy currently opens 15 formats, processes the selected model file locally, and documents loader-specific limitations on each page. Use the preview to inspect geometry and orientation, then validate materials, units, animation, and manufacturing constraints in the destination tool for your workflow.

Choose a viewer by workflow and format behavior

Web delivery and real-time scenes

Start with GLB or GLTF when you are checking a web, commerce, game-engine, or AR asset. GLB keeps scene data in one binary file, while GLTF can describe the same scene with JSON and embedded resources. The individual viewer pages explain the single-file boundary used by this browser implementation.

3D printing and manufacturing review

Use STL and 3MF for printable mesh inspection, and STEP, STP, or 3DM when the source comes from CAD. A browser preview can expose missing geometry and orientation problems, but it does not replace a slicer, tolerance check, or validation in the manufacturing application that owns the downstream workflow.

Interchange, scans, and legacy assets

OBJ, PLY, FBX, DAE, and 3DS cover common interchange, scan, animation, and archive workflows. These formats differ sharply in material, texture, animation, and hierarchy support. Open the dedicated format page to see what the current loader reads before assuming every part of the source scene will appear.

Specialized geometry and spatial formats

DXF is useful for supported drawing and mesh entities, VOX for MagicaVoxel-style voxel data, and USDZ for supported packaged USD assets. Their viewer pages document parser-specific limits and link to the relevant maintainer or standards reference so you can compare the implementation with the underlying format.

Frequently asked questions

Is my 3D model file uploaded to a server?

The selected 3D model file is processed by the browser and is not uploaded to Modelfy. Website code and static assets still load over the network like a normal web page.

Which 3D formats can I open online?

Fifteen formats: GLB, GLTF, OBJ, STL, PLY, FBX, DAE, 3DS, 3MF, USDZ, VOX, DXF, STEP, STP, and 3DM. Each has a dedicated viewer page tuned for that format.

Is the online 3D viewer free to use?

Yes. The browser viewer, converter, and local 3D text tool require no account and add no watermark. Input limits vary by format, up to 50 MB; AI model generation is a separate credit-based product.

From a single image to a production-ready 3D model

These browser tools stay free for viewing and converting files you already have. When the model does not exist yet, Modelfy generates a textured mesh from one reference image — the first one is free.
