Browser-local workflow

How this tool works

  1. Step 1

    VOX

Choose a VOX file from this device.

  2. Step 2

    Browser-local conversion

The supported geometry is converted in this browser.

  3. Step 3

    GLB

Download the GLB result when conversion is complete.

Preserved

  • Geometry
  • Vertex colors

Limited

  • Scene hierarchy

Lost

  • Units and scale

Direct answer

What is preserved when converting VOX to GLB?

This converter processes the VOX file locally in your browser and downloads the converted GLB file. Geometry and vertex colors are retained by the current loader and writer. Scene hierarchy uses a supported subset. Units and scale is not included in the downloaded file.

VOX to GLB compatibility

These results describe Modelfy's current browser loader and exporter, not every feature allowed by the file specifications.

Data preserved, limited, or lost when converting VOX to GLB
DataResultWhat this implementation does
GeometryPreservedGeometry is retained by the current VOX loader and GLB writer.
MaterialsNot in sourceVOX does not define materials to carry into GLB.
TexturesNot in sourceVOX does not define textures to carry into GLB.
Vertex colorsPreservedVertex colors is retained by the current VOX loader and GLB writer.
AnimationNot in sourceVOX does not define animation to carry into GLB.
Scene hierarchyLimitedScene hierarchy is carried through the supported subset of the VOX loader and GLB writer.
Units and scaleNot exportedThe VOX format can contain this data, but the current single-file loader does not retain it for conversion.

Verify after export

  • Confirm scale and units when opening the GLB file in the destination application.

Why choose this VOX to GLB converter

Local VOX decoding

The selected VOX model file is decoded and rewritten as GLB on your device; the model file is not uploaded to Modelfy.

VOX to GLB data report

The compatibility table identifies geometry, vertex colors as preserved by this loader and writer.

GLB output checks

Scene hierarchy is limited; review the implementation detail and verify the downloaded file in your destination tool.

Preview before export

Inspect the browser preview before converting, then use the post-export checklist to confirm the GLB result.

How to convert VOX to GLB online

  1. 01

    Upload your VOX file

Drag and drop the file into the converter, or click Upload. VOX inputs up to 25 MB are processed locally.

  2. 02

    Convert to GLB

Preview the model in 3D, then click Convert. The conversion runs locally in the browser; processing time depends on model complexity and device resources.

  3. 03

    Download the GLB file

Your GLB file downloads straight to your device, ready for the next tool in your pipeline.

About the VOX file format

MagicaVoxel

The .vox format stores models as a grid of colored voxels plus a palette. It is the native format of MagicaVoxel, the most popular free voxel editor, used widely for stylized game art.

When converted to mesh formats, each voxel becomes cube geometry with its palette color preserved as vertex colors.

Format reference: MagicaVoxel VOX format description

Strengths

  • Compact voxel grid encoding
  • Palette colors preserved
  • Perfect for stylized game art

Commonly used for

  • Voxel art and stylized games
  • MagicaVoxel project exchange
  • Voxel-to-mesh conversion

About the GLB file format

GL Transmission Format Binary

GLB is the binary container for glTF 2.0, the "JPEG of 3D" standard maintained by the Khronos Group. A single .glb file bundles meshes, PBR materials, textures, and animations, which makes it the easiest 3D format to move between tools and platforms.

Because GLB is optimized for fast loading on the web, it is the default output of most modern 3D pipelines, including AI 3D generators, web viewers, and game engines.

Format reference: Khronos glTF 2.0 specification

Strengths

  • Single self-contained file with textures included
  • Full PBR material and animation support
  • Loads fast in browsers and game engines

Commonly used for

  • Web and AR/VR experiences
  • Game engine asset delivery
  • AI-generated 3D model exchange

Frequently asked questions

Is my VOX model file uploaded to a server?

The selected VOX model file is processed by the browser and is not uploaded to Modelfy. Website code and static assets still load over the network like a normal web page.

Will I lose quality converting VOX to GLB?

Mesh geometry is preserved as closely as the GLB format allows. The target format may triangulate geometry or drop unsupported features such as animations, materials, textures, or scene hierarchy.

Is the VOX to GLB converter free to use?

Yes. The browser viewer, converter, and local 3D text tool require no account and add no watermark. Input limits vary by format, up to 50 MB; AI model generation is a separate credit-based product.

What is the maximum file size?

VOX inputs up to 25 MB are accepted. The format-specific limit keeps browser-local parsing bounded; actual processing also depends on available memory, model complexity, and device performance.

How are voxels turned into a 3D mesh?

Each solid voxel is meshed as cube faces with its palette color stored as vertex colors, so the converted GLB/OBJ keeps the voxel look. Interior faces between neighboring voxels are removed to keep the mesh lean.

What is the difference between GLB and glTF?

They share the same data model. A .gltf file is JSON that can reference external texture and buffer files, while a .glb packs everything into one binary file. GLB is easier to share; glTF is easier to inspect and edit by hand.
