How this tool works

  1. Step 1

    SVG

Choose a SVG file from this device.

  2. Step 2

    Browser-local conversion

The supported geometry is converted in this browser.

  3. Step 3

    GLB

Direct answer

What happens when you convert SVG to GLB?

Modelfy converts SVG to GLB locally in your browser by extruding filled SVG paths into new mesh geometry. Open strokes, masks, filters and animation are not included in the result.

SVG to GLB compatibility

These results describe Modelfy's current browser loader and exporter, not every feature allowed by the file specifications.

Data preserved, limited, or lost when converting SVG to GLB
DataResultWhat this implementation does
GeometryLimitedModelfy extrudes filled SVG paths into new mesh geometry; strokes, filters and animation are not geometry.
MaterialsLimitedSolid path fill colors become simple mesh materials.
TexturesNot in sourceSVG does not define textures to carry into GLB.
Vertex colorsNot in sourceSVG does not define vertex colors to carry into GLB.
AnimationNot in sourceSVG does not define animation to carry into GLB.
Scene hierarchyNot in sourceSVG does not define scene hierarchy to carry into GLB.
Units and scaleNot in sourceSVG does not define units and scale to carry into GLB.

Verify after export

  • Inspect the extrusion for missing open strokes, masks or unsupported SVG effects.
  • Confirm scale and units when opening the GLB file in the destination application.
  • Compare material colors and textures with the browser preview before using the result in production.

Why choose this SVG to GLB converter

Local SVG decoding

The selected SVG model file is decoded and rewritten as GLB on your device; the model file is not uploaded to Modelfy.

Geometry is limited; review the implementation detail and verify the downloaded file in your destination tool.

How to convert SVG to GLB online

  1. 01

    Upload your SVG file

Drag and drop the file into the converter, or click Upload. SVG inputs up to 5 MB are processed locally.

  2. 02

    Convert to GLB

Preview the model in 3D, then click Convert. The conversion runs locally in the browser; processing time depends on model complexity and device resources.

  3. 03

    Download the GLB file

Your GLB file downloads straight to your device, ready for the next tool in your pipeline.

About the SVG file format

Scalable Vector Graphics

SVG describes artwork as mathematical paths rather than pixels, so logos and icons stay perfectly sharp at any size. It is the standard vector format of the web.

Instead of sampling brightness like raster images, SVG conversion extrudes each filled path into a solid 3D shape — producing clean, sharp-edged models ideal for logos, signage, and laser-cut style parts.

Format reference: W3C SVG 2 specification

Strengths

  • Infinitely sharp vector edges
  • True shape extrusion (not height maps)
  • Path colors preserved

Commonly used for

  • 3D logo and signage models
  • Icon and badge printing
  • Sharp-edged mechanical shapes

About the GLB file format

GL Transmission Format Binary

GLB is the binary container for glTF 2.0, the "JPEG of 3D" standard maintained by the Khronos Group. A single .glb file bundles meshes, PBR materials, textures, and animations, which makes it the easiest 3D format to move between tools and platforms.

Because GLB is optimized for fast loading on the web, it is the default output of most modern 3D pipelines, including AI 3D generators, web viewers, and game engines.

Format reference: Khronos glTF 2.0 specification

Strengths

  • Single self-contained file with textures included
  • Full PBR material and animation support
  • Loads fast in browsers and game engines

Commonly used for

  • Web and AR/VR experiences
  • Game engine asset delivery
  • AI-generated 3D model exchange

Frequently asked questions

Is my SVG model file uploaded to a server?

The selected SVG model file is processed by the browser and is not uploaded to Modelfy. Website code and static assets still load over the network like a normal web page.

Will I lose quality converting SVG to GLB?

Filled SVG paths are extruded into new 3D geometry, so sharp vector outlines are preserved while strokes, filters, animation, and other non-filled effects may be omitted. The result is an extrusion of the artwork rather than an identical copy of every SVG feature.

Is the SVG to GLB converter free to use?

Yes. The browser viewer, converter, and local 3D text tool require no account and add no watermark. Input limits vary by format, up to 50 MB; AI model generation is a separate credit-based product.

What is the maximum file size?

SVG inputs up to 5 MB are accepted. The format-specific limit keeps browser-local parsing bounded; actual processing also depends on available memory, model complexity, and device performance.

Why does my SVG produce no 3D model?

Only filled shapes can be extruded. SVGs that contain just strokes (outlines with no fill) have no area to extrude — open the file in a vector editor and convert strokes to filled paths first.

What is the difference between GLB and glTF?

They share the same data model. A .gltf file is JSON that can reference external texture and buffer files, while a .glb packs everything into one binary file. GLB is easier to share; glTF is easier to inspect and edit by hand.
